4 motored axles per driving car - totally enclosed, frame mounted, 3 phase induction motors. 2 off GTO inverters per driving car (1 per bogie), blended regenerative/rheostatic braking with facility to blend with the air brake system.

110 V DC control.
750 V DC nominal third rail/running rail return (operating limits - 400/900 V).
2500A line current limit.

Cooling

Main equipment case - forced air using 2 x 3 phase/415 V blowers.
Brake resistor - DC blower tapped off resistor.
Semiconductor heat extraction - phase change cooler (closed circuit using fluorocarbon refrigerant).
