Locomotives

Brush Traction offers a broad spectrum of locomotives, drawing upon over 100 years of development, re-investment and experience. Units produced, range from the robust diesel electric designs for shunting and mixed traffic duties, through to the heavy haul freight and high-speed passenger applications.

Electric locomotives range from battery electric types, as used on Metro systems, through to the highly powerful Bo-Bo-Bo fleet of locomotives operating the Channel Tunnel Services.

Brush locomotives incorporate a large number of components and assemblies, both electrical and mechanical, manufactured 'in-house' at our Loughborough plant.

Our dedicated and flexible approach enables us to provide products that are tailored to meet customer specific operating demands, whilst being based heavily upon existing proven designs.

Propulsion Systems

Brush Traction is a major supplier of electric propulsion equipment for both mainline and mass transit applications. The dedicated engineering team at Brush are able to design both the complete drive system and individual components to incorporate within an existing or proposed system.

Examples of recent projects are as follows:

7.0 MW Shuttle Locomotives

Bo-Bo-Bo locomotives rated at 7.0MW hauling HGV freight trains through the Channel Tunnel.

Shuttle Locomotives

Bo-Bo-Bo locomotives rated at 5.6MW hauling HGV and tourist wagons through the Channel Tunnel.

Battery Electric Service Locomotives

Electric locomotives operating either from the 1500V DC overhead supply or from the on-board battery pack.  A truly "green" locomotive having no diesel exhaust emissions especially suitable for an underground metro environment.
Mainline Diesel Electric Locomotives

The Class 60 heavy haul freight locomotive is rated at 3100HP and has microprocessor controlled individual axle wheelslip control.
