Re-engineering of HST Power Cars
First Great Western
Angel Trains engaged Brush Traction in a contract for the design, installation and trial operation of MTU16V4000 diesel engines in two HST Power Cars.
Following a very successful trial spanning 5000 hours of operation on the Greater Western Route, the contract was let for fleet fitment for the Greater Western Franchise.
The new MTU engines offer the following significant improvements over the existing 30 year old engines:

Lower fuel consumption

Lower exhaust emissions

Lower noise
In addition to the installation of new MTU engines a number of other power car upgrade and reliability modifications are being incorporated:
- New cab doors
- New baggage van doors
- Control cubicle rewire
- New or overhauled cooler group
- Corrosion repairs
- Full re-livery
- Alternator overhaul
- New cab desk panels
